As a member of The Montana Landlords Association, I agree to conduct my residential Landlord/Tenant relationships in accordance with these standards:
Conduct all business transactions in a straightforward and honest manner with active knowledge of and affirmative compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Comply with federal, state and local fair-housing laws and not discriminate against persons because of age, race, color, religion, creed, national origin, sex, disability or handicap, or marital or familial status.
Utilize written Rental Agreements that comply with the Montana Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, enforce the terms and conditions of each Rental Agreement consistently among residents and provide a copy of the written Rental Agreement to each resident.
Respond promptly to tenant complaints and address grievances in a fair, honest and timely fashion.
Return all Security Deposits or provide proper accounting for any appropriate deductions within the legal time limit.
Treat tenants and business vendors with respect and integrity.
Encourage employees to be proactively involved in and otherwise supportive of MLA and community based programs and to conduct themselves appropriately at such functions.
Encourage tenants and business vendors to file written complaints regarding any violation of this Code of Conduct and strive to resolve all written complaints promptly
The Montana Landlords Association and each Chapter thereof reserves the right to deny, suspend or terminate the membership of any member who knowingly and repeatedly violates this Code of Conduct or fails to promptly resolve any written complaint filed against them.
Effective September 1, 2022, yearly membership dues are per the following schedule:
1 to 4 Rental Units: $95.00 / Year + A Processing Fee of $3.06
5 to 24 Rental Units: $145.00 / Year + A Processing Fee of $4.51
25 or More Rental Units: $195.00 / Year + A Processing Fee of $5.96
Associate Membership: $175.00 / Year + A Processing Fee of $5.38
Dues include 20% for lobbying expense which is a nondeductible expense.
You will receive notification of upcoming auto-renewal at least 10 days prior to your 1 year anniversary.
We hope you stay with us for the long term, but if you choose to cancel, your membership will end at the end of your 1-year subscription term (no refunds).
After successful completion of the online process, you will receive a receipt for your payment of dues via e-mail. Your membership and online access to the website will be activated immediately. You will need to sign in with the email address and password you created when you completed your application. This will give you access to all the members-only pages of the website. Membership dues are non-refundable due to access to members-only information and documents which may be instantly downloaded and printed upon membership activation.

We have been a member of the MLA for years. We appreciate not only the variety of forms available for use, but the legislative updates and knowing that the forms are updated as the laws change. Most impactful, however, has been the personal one-on-one assistance available from the local chapter, and the MLA president.

If you have rentals you NEED to belong to the MLA. ALL the current forms that you want to be entering into a legal contract with a tenant with, expert legal advice from the president and meetings where you can actually learn something new and ask other landlords how they handle a certain situation. You simply can’t afford NOT to belong to the MLA.
